Three Canacona bridges work to start by October

CANACONA: Sports Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar said the work on the long-awaited bridges over rivers Galgibaga and Talpona will commence in October and will be completed in two years.

“The State government has submitted a proposal to the Centre for three bridges in Canacona including the twin bridges over rivers Galgibaga and Talpona at a cost of Rs 280.16 crore,” disclosed Tawadkar after a presentation of four-lane expressway from Maxem to Char-Rasta by PWD engineers at Poinguinim Panchayat on Saturday. All the three bridges are part of the four-lane expressway.
Tawadkar stated that a Rs 280.16 crore proposal for construction of bridges over rivers Galgibaga, Talpona and Maxem-Loliem creek has been submitted to the Central government. “It has the blessings of the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who gave a green signal and assured us of giving Central government’s nod at the earliest possible,” Tawadkar said.
“If we receive the approvals as anticipated, we will lay foundation stone by October and complete the works of all the three bridges and approach roads within two years,” assured Tawadkar.
Earlier, PWD assistant engineer Laximikant Naik made a presentation of four-lane expressway including three service roads at Maxem, Galgibaga and Char-Rasta, besides the upcoming three bridges.
