QUEPEM: Two candidates—Dayesh Naik  from ward no. 7 (OBC) and Chetan Haldankar from ward no. 1 (OBC)—on Tuesday were elected unopposed in Quepem Municipal Council after Suchita Shirwaikar was declared councilor on Saturday from ward no. 3.

Naik gratified to his supporters, took pride of the development work done he has done in his ward, and admitted that he owe this victory to local MLA and Deputy CM Babu Kavalekar for his support. Haldankar too gave all credit to Kavelkar for his success.

Haldankar had however slipped into controversy as when another candidate Ramesh Naik had come to file nominations from his ward the latter was initially blocked from entering to file his nomination and that led to a huge chaos.

Aaparently opposition leader Digamber Kamat had visited Ramesh Naik at his residence to give moral support, but Naik took everyone by surprise on Tuesday arriving in Deputy CM’s vehicle, withdrew his nomination and showered support to Haldankar. “Deputy CM Babu Kavalekar supported me, as we always stand with our MLA. He gave me moral support. Yesterday whatever controversy was created is now solved and there is no problem between us,” Haldankar said.

Kavalekar said, “Incident which took place on Saturday was very sad and it cannot be tolerated. This was created by the opposition to bring BJP down. This was opposition’s trick to create scene and bring allegations against me.”

Kavelkar also made it clear that if his party workers and supporters are responsible for that chaos it wouldn’t be forgivable.
