PONDA: Ponda Police on Sunday raided a hotel in Ponda and arrested three conmen allegedly posing as astrologers.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Ponda PI CL Patil raided the hotel and arrested Suryakant Bhise, Kalu Eknare and Ramesh Eknare, all from Jalgao-Maharashtra.
According to Ponda Police, Bhise (37) is the mastermind and would lure people promising to solve all kind of problems.
“These people are basically cheats and play with the life of innocent people by promising to solve all their problems through astrology and spiritual powers,” said PI Patil.
According to information, pamphlets were in circulation through newspapers claiming that the astrologers have already solved problems of politicians, businessmen and even actors and assured 100 per cent results.
“Such conmen makes publicity through newspaper advertisements and even distribute pamphlets. I request people not to fall prey to such conmen and please inform us if they come across any such people,” urged PI Patil.
Incidentally, the main accused, Bhise, was staying in the hotel with different surname however, his identity was revealed after being arrested. “The voters ID card had his name as Suryakant Joshi, while on the pamphlets it was mentioned as Suryakant Shashtriji Maharajaji. We will investigate into the matter,” added PI Patil.
All the accused have been booked under Section 41 CrPC and police is investigating the case.
