PANJIM: Amidst a clamour from the opposition for a longer session of the Assembly, the three-day budget session of the Goa Assembly begins on Tuesday.
The opposition Congress has said that despite the shortage of time, they would corner the government on several burning issues, including mining.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is suffering from pancreatic cancer, is expected to be present on all three days and is scheduled to present the financial statement for the fiscal year 2019-20 on January 30.
The opposition Congress had earlier demanded that the session should be of at least 10 days, as three days are not enough to discuss many of the important issues.
Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar had last week said their demand was not approved by the government.
“In the entire year the Assembly met for just 16 days and again they have started the year with just a three-day session,” Kavlekar told Herald.
The opposition leader reiterated that the CM taking a vote on account for five months indicates that the BJP seems to be moving in the direction of dissolution.
However, the BJP has clarified there was no such move. TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has also stated that no party can afford elections at this moment.
