Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the Assembly that three experts will be appointed in the Goa Police cyber crime cell.
“An advertisement has already been published and we will be appointing the experts soon,” the CM said. He said the cell’s present strength is low and more staff will be provided.
The CM said that the process has started for recruiting personnel for the forensics laboratory and it will be done as early as possible. The delay in investigations is due to a delay in receiving forensics reports from the lab in Hyderabad.
As there is no conviction since the inception of the cyber crime cell of Goa police, the chief minister said that due to unavailability of IP addresses the department cannot take legal action.
Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte had raised the issue of websites of escort services at Goa. He said that for the last three years the cyber crime cell has not been able to block these sites which send a wrong signal.
Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the cyber crime cell is defunct and asked the government to block all the escort services websites.
The chief minister said that the escort service websites are hosted outside India and as a remedial measure the cyber crime cell has made a request to the Nodal agency CERT-in to block the sites and disable the search engines.
Since 2013 the cyber crime cell has registered 24 cases – 15 cases in 2014 and 9 cases in 2015 – whereas it has attended to 624 complaints.
