Three Goan origin judges made permanent as per SC Collegium recommendations

PANJIM: Three Goan origin additional judges of the High Court of Bombay have been promoted as permanent judges as per recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium.

The three permanent judges are Justice Bharat P Deshpande, Justice Valmiki SA Menezes and Justice Arun R Pedneker.

A total of 11 additional judges have been promoted as permanent Judges. With this, the High Court will now have 51 permanent judges and 17 additional judges.

The Government of India notified their appointment while acting pursuant to a March 12 recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.

The Bombay High Court Collegium had also unanimously recommended these 11 judges to be made permanent on December 14, 2023.

The Chief Ministers and the Governors of Maharashtra and Goa had concurred with the above recommendation.

Justice Urmila Sachin Joshi-Phalke and Justice B P Deshpande were notified as additional judges by the government of India on June 3, 2022. The other nine judges were notified as additional judges by the Union government on July 16, 2022
