Three persons – Bhavesh Banaulikar, Madhu Salgaonkar and Ashish Kudnekar, all from Assonora, in the wee hours Monday stopped a Mahindra Bolero (KA-22-B-8381) vehicle carrying vegetable from Belgaum.
The trio posing as police on duty told the driver and others in the van that it is illegal to take four passengers in the van and demanded for Rs 4000. When the driver, Bhimrao Gujnal told them that he does not having so much money, the trio reduced the amount and demanded Rs 2000. When the driver refused to pay the amount the accused forciblypulled him out of the van and snatched Rs 1000 from his pocket.
The entire incident was seen by a resident who immediately contacted the Marcel police out post. A police constable, Shailesh Govekar from Marcel out post in turn informed the Bicholim and Mapusa police station and also to the police control room. The Bicholim police team swung into action and went to the site. On seeing the police two of the accused managed to flee while Bhavesh was caught by the police. Later, the other two were also nabbed and were brought to the police station.
As per the information, Bhavesh is a suspended police constable while Madhu is also a constable from GRP. After the complaint from the driver of the van the police arrested the trio under section 392, 341, 419, 506 (ii) r/w 34 IPC. The police is further investigating the case.
