PONDA: Three MLAs from Ponda taluka said online education is option for school students, who are at home due to COVID pandemic and the same can be provided by improving internet facility till the schools reopen in August.
Ponda legislator Ravi Naik, Priol MLA and Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude and Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar said the academic year should not go waste and so online teaching can be continued by improving internet facility.
Shirodkar said “Students are bored staying idle for two months without any classes. Hence online classes for them are important. Already online classes have commenced with 60 to 70 per cent success due to internet connectivity problem especially in remote areas. We should not be too much scared about coronavirus. The students experiencing Internet connectivity issues can be asked to attend classes in schools to overcome internet problem in their villages. This can be continued till August when regular classes commence.”
Expressed similar view both Naik and Shirodkar favoured online education for Class VIII to X.
Naik said, “Government should consider the views of the parents, teachers, headmasters and the management and later decide whether online classes or classes with social distancing should be conducted for Class VIII to X students.”
He even suggested that the government should provide free mobiles or tabs with SIMs to the needy. Mobile towers should be installed wherever needed.
Gaude said, “Time has come that we have to live with corona pandemic. Wherever possible, online education should be provided. The villages should be connected with internet facility. We should also overcome net connectivity problems in the villages. Parents and teachers should be taken into confidence before taking any decision.”
