MARGAO: Although almost three months have passed since the then Collector of South Goa, Jyoti Kumari had instructed the the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to conduct a re-survey of the unsafe buildings and submit the report at the earliest, the civic body is yet to complete the task.
The residents of Margao have accused the MMC for deliberating sidelining the issue and not showing any seriousness towards the threat posed by unsafe buildings in its jurisdiction.
The MMC however said that it is in the process of finalising the list of buildings.
“We are in the process of finalising the list and it will be done in the next couple of days,” said Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson of Margao Municipality.
Local resident, Gajanand Raikar charged the civic body for not showing seriousness towards the issue.
“This is a matter of serious concern as it is related to public life. Who will take up the responsibility if something untoward happens? The civic body needs to act now, keeping aside all other issues,” he said.
A similar exercise had been carried out by the MMC a decade ago, when 22 buildings were declared unsafe.
