PANJIM: The Crime Branch (CB) sleuths arrested three absconding accused in the Rs 10.20 lakh cheating case, on Wednesday — two days after the CB took over the case from the Calangute police station.
The arrested trio identified as Atmaram Malvankar (31), Pritesh Agarwadekar (21) and Gautam Korgaonkar (30).
Last weekend, Calangute police had arrested constables Keshav Naik and Mahendra Mandrekar and RTI activist Deepak Gadekar for allegedly cheating a Mangalore-based businessman of Rs 10.20 lakh on pretext of exchanging demonetised old notes.
When the businessman turned up at the appointed spot, the accused snatched the money and fled, flowing which a complaint was filed..
The CB has seized Rs 27,000 from the possession of the trio which they allegedly received from Gadekar as a share of the booty. As on date, the Goa police have recovered Rs 8 lakh out of the total amount of Rs 10.20 lakh.
