PANJIM, FEB 17
The election to Corporation of the City Panaji (CCP) which will be held on March 13 is likely to get interesting. While the three panels — one floated by Taleigao MLA Babush Monserrate, second supported by the BJP and the third panel floated by the Nationalist Congress Party will fight to win control over the CCP, two journalists have also joined the bandwagon of the CCP polls.
Rajan Narayan, editor of Goan Observer and Ashley do Rosario of Gomantak Times will contest from CCP wards — II and XI respectively.
Rosario who will file his nomination from ward XI will engage in battle with Babush backed Kabir Pinto Makhija and Manoj Patil of BJP panel.
Narayan will face the contest from Cabral brothers – Babush backed Nazareth and Parrikar backed Nelson. It may be recalled that Cabral brothers are crossing swords for the second consecutive time. Present sitting corporator Nazareth had defeated his brother Nelson, who was earlier elected Panjim Municipal Council (PMC) counsillor.
But it is learnt that the residents of La Marval colony at Dona Paula are planning to field their own candidate. So this will make a very interesting fight as the countdown for the last date of filing nominations February 21, approaches.
