Three Russians, two Georgians test negative for Omicron

PANJIM: The Health Department has informed that out of the five samples of COVID-19 positive crew members of the shipping vessel which were sent to Pune lab for genome sequencing, four have tested negative for Omicron and the remaining sample has been sent for retesting.

This was confirmed by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.

“Four out of five initial samples sent for genomic sequencing are negative for the Omicron variant. One sample has been put for retesting,” said Rane.

It may be recalled that three Russian and two Georgian nationals had tested positive for COVID-19 while their ship was in Goan waters. Three more samples of passengers from a UK flight which landed in Goa on Friday have also been sent for testing at Pune lab. The health of these passengers is being monitored.
