MARGAO: Three individuals entrusted with the task of making gold ornaments from melted gold have dishonestly misappropriated approximately 959 grams of gold, valued at Rs 72 lakh. The accused are currently absconding.
The offence was reported on November 30, after a complaint was filed by Pritesh Lotlikar, a 40-year-old businessman residing at Benaulim. According to his statement, the theft occurred between 10.45 pm on November 29 and 9.30 am on November 30, 2024, at a flat at Comba, Margao.
The suspects, identified as Uprokash Mandal, 29, Bijoy Mondal, 22, and Tapas Jana, 44, all residents of various locations in West Bengal, were entrusted with the task of making gold ornaments at Lotlikar’s workplace. However, they allegedly misappropriated the gold.
Following the complaint, Margao police have registered an offence under Section 316(1) R/w 3(5) of BNS 2023. Investigations are ongoing, with the police having circulated the descriptions of the accused across Goa and specifically to West Bengal. A police team is likely to be sent to West Bengal to track down the suspects.
