VASCO: Three workers were injured in a major fire which broke out to the garbage segregation site at the Dabolim International Airport on Monday morning.
According to information available, a spark in one of the bailing and compression machines at the site caused a blast leading to the fire.
The three injured labourers, who were working on the machine were injured and shifted to the hospital for treatment. One of the workers suffered head injury and burns on his hand and neck.
The fire grew into an inferno as it engulfed plastic waste, perfume bottles and dry waste. In all, five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to put out the blaze.
While the Goa Airport did not comment, it is learnt from sources that the airport will conduct an enquiry into the incident. Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, who rushed to the site on receiving the information, said that three workers were injured in the fire incident. He said that as per the sources, fire was caused by the sparks in the bailing machine.
