Thunder showers damage homes, cause blackout in Quepem and Curchorem

Trees uprooted, cars damaged; some places of Sanguem and Sanvordem also affected

QUEPEM: Houses were damaged while many trees were uprooted in Quepem and Curchorem area and also some places of Sanguem and Sanvordem due to heavy following the thunder showers on Monday night. 

Due to the uprooting of trees, the power cables were damaged, due to which many parts of Curchorem and Quepem witnessed prolonged blackout. 

The worst affected areas were areas under Curchorem municipality viz Zoriwado, Bethmodi along with Xeldem and Assolda panchayat areas of curchorem.

In Quepem, houses and electric poles were damaged in the municipal areas like Dessai Wado and Deumol. There were also isolated incidents of uprooted trees falling on four wheelers in Quepem, Sanguem and Dharbandora and damaging them. 

Curchorem fire station registered total 69 calls in 14 hours, of which around 56 calls were received from Quepem and Curchorem, 10 from Sanvordem constituency and three from Sanguem constituency, according to the Curchorem fire station office.

As per information given by Curchorem fire station office, most of the calls were related to road side trees falling on houses and cars along with uprooting of electric poles.

Electricity department personnel in Quepem and Curchorem were seen working tirelessly to restore electricity.
