Thundershowers till Wednesday

IMD says rainfall distribution will slightly increase on May 25 to 26

PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa observatory has forecasted thundershowers accompanied with lightning till May 26 for the State. 

IMD Goa-Incharge Rahul Menon said that with maximum temperature back to its normal values and moisture incursion in the lower levels of atmosphere, thundershowers are very likely at isolated places from Sunday till May 26. 

He said that the rainfall distribution will slightly increase on May 25 to 26. The State’s maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 33 Degree Celsius, while the night temperature was at 26 Degree Celsius. 

Predicting squally weather with strong winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over Southwest Arabian Sea till May 26, the fishermen are asked not to venture into deep sea during the period. 

The State has received excess of pre-monsoon showers, calculated from March 1. As on date, State received total 693 mm of pre-monsoon rains, as against the normal average of 353 mm. 

With early arrival of southwest monsoon in Kerala by May 31, the onset of monsoon over Goa is also expected in the first week of June, if the conditions remain favourable.
