Tiatr fest underway at Margao, six feted

MARGAO: The six-day Tiatr festival 2014 organised by Ravindra bhavan, Margao in association with Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Ltd, got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan on Wednesday.

MARGAO: The six-day Tiatr festival 2014 organised by Ravindra bhavan, Margao in association with Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Ltd, got underway at the Ravindra Bhavan on Wednesday.
The festival was inaugurated by the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Fatorda Fr Alvaro Martins in the presence of Ravindra bhavan Chairman Damu Naik, Vice Chairman Chandan Nayak and other dignitaries. Artistes of yesteryears were felicitated on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Martins complimented Ravindra bhavan chairman Damu Naik for his initiative in organising the Tiatr festival and for honouring the artistes in recognition to their contribution to Tiatr. “Tiatr has a rich history spanning 120 years and it is still going strong. We have to preserve this rich cultural heritage for posterity,” Fr Martins said.
In his address, the Ravindra bhavan Chairman said that Tiatr is responsible for protecting Goa’s language, identity and culture over the years. He said the festival is being organised in order to promote and preserve the rich tradition of Tiatr.
Six prize winning tiatrs which had won competitions held across the state are participating in the festival.
