MARGAO: After close to two months, the government has finally managed to install and put into operation the AC chillers at the main auditorium at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, to the relief of tiatrists and South Goa’s tiatr-loving community.
On Friday, Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude in the presence of Agnelo Fernandes, Member Secretary, Ravindra Bhavan and other officials inaugurated the new chiller that has been installed at a cost of around Rs 23 lakh.
The installation required continuous follow-ups with the authorities, which were done doggedly by Fernandes.
The earlier reciprocating type chiller was outdated and difficult to maintain due to the unavailability of its spare parts for repair, and it was also a power-guzzler, and energy inefficient, said sources. It was therefore proposed to replace the faulty and outdated reciprocating chiller with a new one. It was also proposed to increase the capacity of the chiller, and a new screw type chiller with a capacity of 100 TR be installed instead, to avoid any such future breakdowns of the AC, which may hamper the smooth functioning of scheduled events at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
Fernandes expressed hope that the installation of the new AC chillers would resolve the issues that the audience faced over the past weeks, and that the staging of tiatrs would commence uninterrupted, to a packed house.
After inaugurating the chillers, the Minister told reporters that the non-working chiller issue was hampering the several theatre activities and the government was serious in resolving it. “Many tiatre lovers met me and urged me to expedite the repair,” he said.
