MAPUSA: Aldona MLA, Glenn Ticlo has sought the attention of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) to find a solution to the parking woes plaguing the city.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the commencement of development works at Shetye Waddo in Mapusa.
“There has been a rise in the number of vehicles and this has resulted in severe parking problem especially in the Mapusa market that is frequented by people from Bardez and other talukas. It would be nice if the municipality can notify a good place for parking”, Ticlo stated.
Works to the tune of Rs 60 lakhs will be carried out in MMC ward 7, near ITI opposite PMC bank where Franky Carvalho is the councilor. The four works include the beautification of a footpath with interlocking pacers from ITI road to District Hospital, construction of a retaining wall, laying of a new water pipeline and distribution of free bio-toilets. The works will be carried out by MMC and Public Works Department’s water supply section.
Carvalho said that the works will give a facelift to the ward which was earlier deprived of development. He informed that a total of five bio toilets will also be made available for the residents of the ward under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity.
“The beautification of footpaths will help the people to walk in the evening freely and without any fear. We have decided to provide bio-toilets to the residents so that the people from this ward do not face any problem. The four development works are scheduled to commence shortly”, Carvalho stated.
Aldona MLA also stressed upon the need to provide the locals with adequate water supply on a priority basis.
Ticlo was stern in his words when he said “The necessary water requirement for my constituency should be supplied without fail. I will not allow water from Aldona constituency to be supplied to the people from other constituencies. Action will be taken against those indulging in doing so”.
Present for the function was MMC Chairperson Ryan Braganza alongwith Vice-Chairperson of Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and Councillor Sandeep Falari and other councilors.
