MAPUSA: Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo has appealed to Aldona Panchayat, Aldona Comunidade and shop owners to cooperate with him in constructing a new market complex project in Aldona.
Ticlo said that the Goa government is funding the market project under GSIDC but there is need to vacate the existing complex to demolish it and construct a new building in its place. “The shop owners and vendors had previously assured to vacate the complex, but now they are refusing to vacate the complex fearing loss of livelihood,” Ticlo said.
“The present market complex land is jointly owned by Aldona Comunidade, the panchayat and a private property. I had several meetings with the Comunidade and the Panchayat. They are ready for the new market complex project, however, they have not given a written support,” Ticlo said.
Referring to the 2012 Calvim accident, Ticlo said, “I don’t want any casualties at the market complex. The existing market is in a bad condition and needs to be vacated as soon as possible. There are chances that the building may collapse at any point of time. There is need to vacate the building so that it can be demolished and a new building could be constructed. If the shops are vacated and the project work begins, then, the vendors and shopkeepers will be provided with place to carry out their business,” Ticlo said.
