CANACONA: A delegation of National Tiger Conservation Authority visited Netravali and Cotigao wildlife sanctuaries on Thursday evening.
The Union government appointed a five-member committee of the National Tiger Conservation Authority led by Union Minister of State for Environment Jayanti Natrajan. Other committee members include Member Secretary Rajesh Gopal, Dev Prakash Bankhwal, Shiv Kumar and S P Yadav.
Gopal, Bankhwal, Kumar and Yadav visited Netravali and later visited Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. The members interacted with some locals including some living inside and around the sanctuaries over the Buffer Zone assessment exercise.
Conservator of Forests Dr Carvalho and DCF Ramesh Gauns Desai also accompanied the team during their visit to the two wildlife sanctuaries assisting them in their assessment of the buffer zone around the wildlife sanctuaries.
It is learnt that the central delegation will visit the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, where recently tigers were spotted.
It may be recalled that there is a demand to mark the buffer zone for ‘no-mining’ activities from the mandatory 10 kms to 1 km.
