With President of India Ram Nath Kovind visiting the State on Saturday, tight security has been put in place as police personnel are also holding security drills along the VVIP route. “Maximum police force is deployed… all the venues where the President will visit are being regularly screened. We are also holding (security) rehearsals,” Goa Police PRO Mahesh Gaonkar told Herald.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Kumar Meena has been personally monitoring the security along these places since last week. The First Citizen of India will arrive in the State on Saturday afternoon, and leave the State on Sunday evening.
The First Lady Savita Kovind; Governor of Goa Bhagat Singh Koshyari; Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister of State for Ayush(I/C) Shripad Naik, Minister for Protocol Mauvin Godinho and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat will also grace the function.
A bullet proof vehicle for the President has been acquired by Goa Police from a neighbouring state, Gaonkar said.
The President will launch the celebrations of 60th year of Goa’s Liberation at Dayanand Bandodkar Ground, Campal, Panaji at 6 pm on December 19, 2020. He will lay the wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial at Azad Maidan, Panaji at 5.45 pm and pay floral tributes.
A two-hour thematic programme on Goa culture and tradition will be presented at Dayanand Bandodkar Ground, Campal.
