PANJIM: Almost six month after death of Rana, the male tiger at Bondla Zoo, tigress Sandhya too passed away of old age on Wednesday. Sandhya was born in February 2003.
“Tigress named Sandhya from Bondla zoo has expired today. The death could be attributed to natural cause as she was 14 years and 4 months of age,” a statement issued by the government reads.
A senior Forest Official said that a caged animal lives up to 14 to 15 years and Sandhya lived a full life. In December last year, Rana, the male tiger too had died due to old age. He was little over 16-year- old.
Rana and Sandhya had arrived in Goa on July 17, 2009, from Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Vizag, in a friendly exchange for a pair of bison, and were the first tiger couple in the zoo.
