Till 2017 GMC will get 50 provisional seats, clarifies CM

PANJIM: The confusion over the MBBS seats at Goa Medical College (GMC) has ended. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that till 2017 GMC will get the additional 50 seats on provision, and only in the year 2018 will the additional 50 seats be notified by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The State was able to get 50 seats in addition to the 100 seats at GMC Bambolim after approval from MCI in 2012 whereas the demand had remained pending for over a decade.
GMC has already admitted 100 students to the MBBS course for this academic year, whereas another 50 are yet to be admitted. GMC Dean Pradeep Naik said that the additional 50 seats will be filled up only after GMC receives approval from MCI and the Union Health ministry.
The confusion arose as GMC is yet to receive official confirmation from the Union Health ministry and MCI, though both have accepted the request for an additional 50 seats, Naik said.
