PERNEM: Daily commuters and Casarvane villagers were held up for more than six hours after a portion of the Tillari dam breached early on Monday morning.
Over a thousand litres of water was wasted. Mud from the hill also came down on the road rendering it slippery. This held up the traffic and commuters had to wait for the dam and PWD officials to arrive and solve the issue. Locals said that the “officials turned up two hours after the dam was breached.”
Locals said since the canal is old and not maintained regularly, the recent cyclone Tauktae may have damaged the canal which led to it breaching.
Chief Engineer Badami said, “The canal will be repaired in two days. There is no impact on the water treatment plant.”
