Tillari project victims finally to get compensation

PANJIM: The Tillari Control Board at a meeting in Mumbai agreed to in principle give Rs 3 lakh to persons affected by the project in the percentage of 73.5% (Goa) to 26.5%(Maharashtra), officials said. 
Tillari dam is constructed on Tillari River as a joint project between the Maharashtra and Goa governments in the same cost sharing percentage. 
There are some 1073 persons affected by this project. 
The meeting chaired by Board chair Maharashtra WRD minister Sunil Tatkare also agreed to the state government’s demand that it be allowed to build a 18 km emergency pipeline from Tillari to Assnora for drinking water for residents.
The meeting attended by state water resources minister Dayanand Mandrekar also agreed to cut down the maintenance period of the pipeline from the normal 3 months to one and a half month (from October 15 to November end).
