Time period extended to submit suggestions on Waste By-Laws

PANJIM: The Department of Urban Development has extended the deadline for suggestions/objections on draft Model Goa Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) By-Laws 2020.

“The department intends to extend the notice period for inviting objections/suggestions from the public and urban local bodies (ULBs) by additional 14 days from the expiry of the mentioned notice (May 12) due to the extension of lockdown period in view of the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads a notice by Urban Development Director Tariqu Thomas.

With this extension, the deadline has been extended till May 26 which earlier was May 12. The feedback, Thomas said, will be accepted till 5 pm on May 26.

Last week, GOACAN had urged the department to extend the deadline while pointing out that the By-laws must be seen and discussed by all stakeholders so that feedback of objections and suggestions is comprehensive.
