MARGAO: Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a short tender to hot mix the National Highway from Margao to Canacona, and hence the unique agitation of people from Canacona has yield relieving results.
The PWD has bowed down before the Canconkars who were tirelessly fighting from the last three years for restoration of National Highway 66 but always neglected, said agitator Janardhan Bhandari.
Several local leaders including Bhandari were agitating on the issue for the last few years. A high voltage drama was also witnessed at the PWD office, Panjim recently. Later, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral had assured to issue short tender to hot-mix the roads.
The tender, which is issued has estimated the cost of hot mix work at Rs. 23,39,45,773.50 and mentions a 75 days period including monsoon to complete the work.
Reportedly, a group of agitators had submitted a number of memorandums to Union Ministers, the Chief Minister of Goa, the PWD Minister, the Central agencies, and various local government authorities.
A number of delegations under the leadership of Bhandari had met various authorities, Ministers to apprise them of the plight of common Canconkars who daily travel through this dilapidated NH 66 with no relief.
