PONDA: After six days of agony, Tiswadi residents are in for some good news as the damaged 900 mm diameter pipeline supplying water to the taluka and Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim was connected to the main line on Tuesday.
The workers are expected to complete the welding work besides the laying of the concrete structure on Tuesday night following which water supply would be restored on Wednesday either by 1 pm or late evening or at night.
However, the 750 mm diameter pipeline supplying water to parts of Ponda taluka will need another five to six days to be restored.
The restoration of the 900 mm diameter pipeline has come as a huge relief for officials as they were on round-the-clock duty at the site for at least a week.
PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, who visited the site, said henceforth provisions will be made for alternative pipeline options, which would be used to provide water supply to affected areas in case of pipeline breakdown.
He admitted that people in Panjim faced hardship as tankers could not meet the requirements of all. He said Tiswadi receives around 50 MLD, so it was difficult to meet the demands of all the people.
“At some places people faced shortage, however we made all efforts to meet the water requirements”, said Pauskar.
