PANJIM: The North Goa District Magistrate has imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 on a shop proprietor, who was caught selling misbranded farsan/dry snacks to customers at Tivim.
According to Food & Drugs Administration, Suresh Devar, proprietor of Ganesh Farsan at Madel, Tivim has been held guilty for manufacturing, selling and distributing ‘misbranded food articles’. As per the order of the adjudicating officer, Devar has been directed to pay the penalty in cash within 30 days. The order also instructs the authorities to destroy the seized food articles.
On August 12, 2015, Senior Food Safety Officer Rajiv Korde had found that masoor shev, shev chivda, mixed farsan, masala groundnuts, fried green peas were ‘defective and deficient in the label declaration requirements on the packages’.
“Accordingly, the raiding team drew samples of each of the food articles and submitted to the food analyst at the Food & Drugs Laboratory for a test. The report confirmed that the food samples were defective,” FDA Director Salim Veljee said.
FDA has cautioned all food business operators against dealing in misbranded food articles and directed them to ensure they do not purchase un-labelled/defective labelled food articles.
