TMC delegation gheraoed the Calangute Police station on Wednesday, as part of their demand of justice for Siddhi Naik, whose body was found at Calangute beach. The delegation, in a memorandum to the new Police Inspector Laxi Amonkar of Calangute Police Station, demanded that the PI should do the investigation seriously and rapidly.
The delegation also demanded disciplinary action and termination of services of PI Nolasco Raposo, who they alleged botched up the Siddhi Naik case, by terming it case as suicide. Raposo has been suspended in the Souza Lobo violence case. In a memorandum to Calangute Police, TMC requested to register an offence for destruction of evidence. TMC also gave 24 hour ultimatum to Calangute PI to identify the accused person/s and bring him or them to justice.
As per the Section 302, the assailant has to be identified within 24 hours, Adv Seoula Vas said. She alleged that destruction of evidence was done and the viscera was not preserved. “The police have to now pull up their socks and whatever was not done by previous PI, has to do,” she said demanding to know the name and identity of murderer and that he be brought to justice.
Adv Seoula Vas further stated that rapes are not reaching convictions. “here have been 70 rapes in 20 years but no convictions. Also there have been 10 rapes in 5 years but there have been no convictions. We are not going to leave it at that, we want termination of PI Nolasco Raposo,” she said. The new PI Laxi Amonkar said he is going to honestly and rapidly investigate the case, Adv Seoula Vas stated.
“There should be no further political pressure in the investigation,” Priya Rathod of TMC demanded. There should be a fair and thorough inquiry, she added.
“Why was the case, registered as suicide and not registered as murder? We condemn the CM’s statement that by 7 pm girls should be at home. How were the mega parties going on in the state,” Kavita Kandolkar of TMC asked. “We demand an early and fair investigation. All those behind this case be exposed,” she added.
