PANJIM: West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that the TMC-MGP alliance will win the upcoming Assembly elections.
During an interaction with the Goa editors at The International Centre, Banerjee said that the TMC is the main party fighting the upcoming Goa Assembly election in alliance with the regional MGP and that they will win the elections.
Banerjee refused to accept that the TMC’s entry in the Goa political arena will split the secular votes. When asked why the TMC cannot have trucks with the Congress party, she said, “I cannot take briefing for any political party. They (Congress) are fighting against me also in West Bengal. You can fight against me and when I fight in Goa then what. We are the main party fighting elections in Goa in alliance with MGP and we are winning elections.”
Banerjee said that she had met NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar in Mumbai for opposition unity.
Banerjee said that the jobs scam will be an issue in the ensuing elections. She demanded CBI or Commission of Inquiry into the allegations of bribes paid to secure government jobs, adding that how in Bengal, the BJP-led NDA government had ordered CBI and ED inquiry on filmsy grounds.
To a question, Banerjee said that the party will announce the Chief Ministerial candidate once the poll date in Goa is declared by the Election Commission. The State executive committee will also be announced soon, she said adding that the party work is on.
“We came to Goa four months ago. Our work is on and we kept our commitment by giving representation to (Luizinho Faleiro) in the Upper House<’ she said.
Later Banerjee tweeted, “Today, I met with several prominent Editors of Media houses at the International Centre in Goa. I congratulate them for their outstanding achievements and salute their perseverance in preserving the sanctity of the Fourth Pillar of Democracy!”
