PANJIM: Goa Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders have slammed the Goa government for refusing to demolish the illegal structure at Old Goa’s UNESCO heritage site despite evidence of a clear violation of the law.

While emphasizing on a reply of Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G Krishan Reddy in the Parliament, TMC leaders Trajano D’Mello, Samil Volvaikar and Pratibha Borkar launched a scathing attack further alleging government’s failure to take a clear stand on the matter. AITC National Vice President Luizinho Faleiro had tabled a question in the Parliament concerning the illegal construction at a UNESCO heritage site in Old Goa.

“MP Faleiro raised the issue of Old Goa illegal structure in Rajya Sabha which forced the central government to accept that the bungalow constructed at the heritage site is in complete violation of the Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act. The Central government has accepted that laws have been violated but the same BJP government in the state is found terming the case to be sub-judice,” Volvoikar said.
