PANJIM: Goa Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant following allegations of corruption by former Governor Satya Pal Malik.
A delegation of TMC submitted two memorandums to the Governor seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over COVID-19 mishandling and large scale corruption as highlighted by the former Goa Governor and second regarding the botch-up by the police in the Siddhi Naik death case.
After meeting the Governor, TMC national vice president Luizinho Faleiro said the Prime Minister had failed to initiate action against the Sawant government after Malik had complained about alleged corruption, and demanded a white paper regarding purchases and expenditure during the COVID-19 pandemic as it was important at this time to restore people’s faith in the institutions of government. The TMC also demanded a judicial investigation by a retired High Court or Supreme Court Judge.
In the second memorandum, the TMC demanded a fair investigation into the mysterious death of Siddhi Naik.
Stating that the Governor is the custodian of the Constitution, TMC demanded that the government be instructed to restore law and order in the State. The memorandum says that since Siddhi Naik’s parents suspect foul play and murder, the case be reinvestigated and handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) as pleaded by the family and to initiate strict action against the police officials and other investigating agencies, who botched investigation under external pressure, duress or otherwise.
Besides Faleiro, the delegation comprised former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, MP Saugata Roy, Dorris Teixeira and Swati Kerkar.
