MARGAO: Stating that Chinchinim village lacks basic facilities, tennis legend and TMC leader Leander Paes on Monday said that his party will give priority in providing all the basic facilities such as electricity and water to people of Goa, as he held a door to door campaign in Chinchinim.

Along with other TMC leaders Adv Antonio Clovis da Costa, Swati Kerkar and others, Paes engaged in door to door campaign, where they also met several shop keepers and other local vendors in the Chinchinim market. TMC leaders and workers received a huge response on Monday.

Speaking to media, Leander Paes said that it was wonderful campaigning in South Goa, and meeting the people from different communities and more especially the local business community.

“We TMC have focused on giving a better quality of life to the people of Goa. For me going to the whole market place and asking their issues was a great experience,” said Paes.

He further said that the business community and the people of Chinchinim, besides others from surrounding areas, have issues related to basic necessities.

“Their issues are related to electricity, jobs, water supply and running business to earn livelihood. These are basic essentials and for TMC it will be our priority to give the basic necessities which they are in need of. Safety for women, water, roadways are the necessities of which people cannot be deprived off,” said Paes.

Swati Kerkar said that TMC has already had campaigns in Velim, Calangute and other areas.

“We are meeting people and listening to local people’s issues. Goans are very much fed up with the BJP government and also the Congress. People want a change and TMC is the best choice,” she stated.

Antonio Clovis Da Costa also expressed his anger over the hardships Chinchinim villagers are facing.

“People are complaining about no proper power supply. Water scarcity is another issue the people are facing for the last many years. Most of the problems over here are related to basic facilities. There is no toilet facility in the market of Chinchinim, besides no proper water supply,” said Da Costa.

“Fluctuation of the power supply has become a routine in the village of Chinchinim. The basic infrastructure is lacking over here and hence the people need to realise this, as enough is enough and need to bring change, and this is the right time to do so,” said Da Costa.
