TMC’s National Vice President Luizinho Faleiro set to enter Rajya Sabha; to also contest Goa Elections

TMC’s National Vice President Luizinho Faleiro will enter the Rajya Sabha on the TMC nomination.  This is seen as Bengal’s gift to the State of Goa. Putting out the news on its Twitter handle, TMC said, @luizinhofaleiro set to enter Rajya Sabha Sabha on  #TMC ticket. #Bengal gifts @#Goa a MP seat. Sources also confirmed that Faleiro will “surely” contest the 2022 Assembly Elections in Goa.

Luizinho Faleiro joined the TMC two days after quitting from the Congress in September 2021. Faleiro joined the TMC in Kolkata in the presence of Sougata Roy and Subrata Mukherjee. Later he met the TMC Chief and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with a few other leaders from Goa.

Faleiro was appointed National Vice President of TMC on 22nd October 2021, ahead of the visit of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Goa. “Our Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial takes great pride in appointing Mr. @luizinhofaleiro as the National Vice President of All India Trinamool Congress,” a notification signed by Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said.

Luizinho Faleiro is a two time chief minister of Goa known for introducing a number of policies in Goa such as the Employment policy and the first ever IT policy. He introduced the first  IT Policy, and first ever IT dept in India, in Goa. He served as the eighth Chief Minister of Goa and held many other portfolios as minister in Congress Govts. Faleiro was credited with devising strategies and alliances that led to formation of Governments in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and even in Karnataka.

While joining the TMC Faleiro had said his main aim was to fight the BJP and had said he admired Mamata Banerjee for her fighting spirit. “Like the country Goa is also suffering because of the BJP. There is economic meltdown, administrative collapse and sharp unemployment. In Goa, 65 per cent of the population is living below the poverty line. The BJP has taken our country 45 years back,” Faleiro had said.
