To avert road accidents, Chinchinim panchayat appeals to govt for funds to set up cattle pound

MARGAO: In view of the stray cattle menace on the Dandevaddo stretch of the National Highway passing through Chinchinim village, the local panchayat has appealed to the State government to provide them with the funds required to set up a stray cattle pound.

The presence of stray cattle on the highway has not only been a cause of accidents but it has also made it difficult for locals and commuters to negotiate this junction.

There have also been demands from the locals for the authorities to find the owners of these stray cattle and direct them to keep their herd in check and monitor the movement of the cattle.

The Deputy Sarpanch of Chinchinim-Deussua panchayat, Sharmila Gracias gave the example of a recent accident that had occurred on the highway due to the stray cattle and urged the government to help the panchayat find a solution to the issue.

She stated that if the government can provide the panchayat with funds, the panchayat can look for a suitable place to set up the stray cattle pound.

It may be noted that directions had recently been issued to all self-governing bodies to either set up their own cattle pound or work with an NGO that has been carrying out such tasks.
