PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to make use of the subway and parking space at the city’s Old bus stand to solve the traffic congestion around Almeida High School.

During a meeting held by PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik with traffic police and local authorities, it was decided to close all the three gates of the school that open onto the road, and instead, students will use the subway that leads to Almeida School. From the subway, they will directly proceed to the Old Bus Stand at Indira Market, where PMC will create a parking space for parents’ vehicles. A safety railing will be erected from the underpass to Ponda Bus Stand so that students can safely take the underpass to the parking space, where parents can drop off and pick up their kids.

Naik said, “We will depute police personnel for safety and also asked the school management to depute a staffer at the bus stand to ensure that students are safely sent home with their parents.”

“As PMC needs some time to install the railings at the bus stand, we have decided to make these detours and changes only after Ganesh Chaturthi. Besides, some other parking spaces will be created at other places owned by PMC,” he added.
