PANJIM: Various social activists from Goa have vociferously criticised the police for listing Hanumant Parab in the history sheet and expressed concerns over the ‘trend of vengeance’ being seen in the State. They also demanded removal of Parab’s name from the history sheet.
Kamlesh Bandekar from Bharat Swabhiman said, “Police have to rethink and remove Parab’s name from the list. We will approach the Chief Minister, who is also the Home Minister of the State, and request him to get his name removed.”
“The difference between activist and a criminal is quite clear. We will have to also think about our future course of action if they don’t listen to our request. Moreover, if some activist is made history sheeter, no one will come ahead for initiating a social change,” he said.
Amrut Singh, wildlife and social activist, said, “We have been working with Hanumant Parab for many years have never seen him indulge in any crime. We were perplexed on how he is reflecting in the history sheet list. If he has been named in the history sheet, tomorrow it could be us. We were attacked some years ago and action hasn’t been taken yet. But now, Parab is listed as history sheeter,” he said.
Singh further added that there is a trend of vengeance going on in Goa. The delegation of all the organisations handed over a memorandum to the Director General of Police with their demand of removing Parab from the history sheet list.
