MARGAO: Leaders should be like Shepherd but it is sad to see that today’s leaders prefer to stand in front and forget to know what happens behind, and hence today situations are such that leaders are on the way to become the dealers, said Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude.

Addressing gathering at the function organised by Salcete Tribal Forum in association

with Directorate of Tribal Welfare at Ravindra Bhavan, here, on Saturday, he also appealed to the students’ community to choose the right path and take the right decision at the right time.

In the presence of Director of Tribal Welfare Triveni Velip, Director of Art and Culture Sagun Velip, President of Salcete Tribal Forum Romaldo Gonsalves and others, Gaude said leadership can’t be utilised only to occupy the positions.

“Leader cannot be defined on its own. One is going to become a leader when people follow him. Leadership should stand behind the people till the end and such leaders also need to accept the criticism too,” said Gaude.

He appealed to the students to showcase their talents and qualities besides education.

“Without effort, hard work and burning desire it is not possible to achieve success, as the success is measured by discipline and inner peace,” said the Minister.

Konkani writer Ives Tavares, Principal Reuben Costa and Goa Football Association (South) Vice-President Antonio Pango, besides newly elected Scheduled Tribes sarpanchas, deputy sarpachas and panchas of Salcete Taluka and nearly 100 Scheduled Tribes meritorious students of SSC and HSSC were felicitated in the hands of Govind Gaude.
