According to Verna police, the incident took place as the one-and-half-year-old child of Subedar Vishwakarma of Andhra Pradesh accidentally crawled into the plastic tub.
Vishwakarma stated that his wife was cooking in the kitchen and did not notice that the child had crawled into another room and had accidentally fallen into the tub.
Vishwakarma said his wife later realised that their child was missing and began searching for him in the house, when she was horrified to find his lifeless body in the tub.
Police said the child was rushed to the Cortalim Primary Health Centre, where the doctors declared the child dead on admission. An autopsy report confirmed that the toddler had died due to drowning.
Verna police has registered a case of unnatural death and is investigating the case.
