PANJIM: Residential units and societies leaving raw sewerage outside will face disconnection of water and electricity under the Public Health Act, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced, here, on Friday.
After chairing a high level meeting on dengue outbreak in the State, Rane told reporters that the officers and doctors have been given full powers to take immediate action.
“We will hold a review on dengue every week and contemplate on our role. We have given certain powers to the doctors and officers to take immediate action in this regard,” he said.
Rane said the Health Department has taken the issue of dengue seriously and in the same way the other department must also take the issue seriously such as panchayat and urban development.
“Our role is to see that all facilities, diagnostic kits are made available. So also track the patient,” he said.
Pointing to unhygienic conditions leading to vector-borne diseases, he said, “Those who are not complying on NGT decision on sewage will face action. Officers have been told to disconnect the electricity and water lines under the Public Health Act,” he said.
He said the department has so far issued 800 notices for leaving raw sewerage outside.
