PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party Wednesday called the Tourism Department as absolutely directionless and without any policy due to the lack of adequate infrastructure on beaches and vulnerability of women.
The Nationalist Congress Party  at a press conference alleged that the beaches were dirty, there were no proper toilet facilities, no changing rooms for tourists, and that till this day women are not safe with increase in crimes against them. They cited the fact that there were no CCTVs installed on beaches and places visited by tourists.
Addressing the media at a press conference, the party spokesman pointing out that the Tourism Minister had publicly announced that he would demolish all encroachments on tourism land and would not succumb to any pressure, argued that till date the department has “not moved an inch in that direction” and brought in the BJP MLA of the coastal belt of Calangute saying that he was on record to corroborate this.
The Nationalist Congress Party  also criticised the functioning of Apna Ghar alleging that the purpose of rehabilitation was totally defeated and on the contrary these minor children were being used by criminals to commit crimes.
“This institution has been a disaster as confirmed by the Chief Minister very recently saying that the functioning of the Apna Ghar cannot be trusted while explaining the foster care scheme which was passed by the State Cabinet recently,” the party spokesman said.
