PANJIM: In three separate orders issued by the tourism department, allotments made for a shack each at Velsao, Mandrem and Pernem have been cancelled, as allotees misrepresented facts at the time of the allotment process, taking the total cancelled allotments to four. The department had cancelled one allotment at Calangute last month.
According to recent orders issued by the department of tourism, complaints had been filed against three allotees for having wilfully misrepresented information at the time of the shack allotment process.
In all three cases, the shack allotees have had other ‘business’ such as fishing vessels, wine store and super market and a public carrier vehicle.
The department after closely scrutinizing all documentation, issued show cause notices to the allotees, conducted hearings and thereafter issued orders for cancellation of the allotments made.
As per the orders, the department established that the allotees do not fulfill eligibility criteria for beach shacks and have violated the shack policy for 2013-16 by allegedly furnishing incorrect information.
The order stated that shack allotments made, stand cancelled and further orders issued that the shack fee, application fee and security deposits will also be forfeited.
The shack allotees have been given seven days to demolish their shacks failing which the department would take necessary action in the matter.
Officials in the tourism department have disclosed that there are more complaints that have come in and each case are being examined in detail. The department will be conducting hearings and after establishing facts it would take necessary action in the matter.
“In those cases where allotments have been cancelled, the same would be allotted to those on the waiting list in those respective areas,” said a senior official in the tourism ministry.
