Tourism dept seeks to recover Princess cutting cost from firm

PANJIM: Tourism Department has moved a file to the government seeking approval for recovery of crores of rupees from a local firm, whose carrier M V River Princess had run aground off Sinquerim coast due to rough weather in 2000.

“We have moved the government that the amount spent by us should be recovered from Salgaonkar (Mining Industries Ltd) with interest,” he said. 
NIO, following its survey had had stated that the seabed had been cleared of the submerged metallic wreckage of River Princess. 
In a confidential report on geophysical survey submitted to Goa government, NIO had also pointed out that the portion of the seafloor does have presence of iron metal. “The seabed is free from all obstacles. In certain portion, a significant amount of iron metal is present. But this is not hazardous to marine life in the current circumstance,” the report had stated.
