Tourism Dept takes serious cognisance of driving on beaches

PANJIM: The Tourism Department on Thursday urged the Pernem police to register an FIR against the driver of four-wheeler vehicle for unauthorised driving on Morjim beach.

Photos of a State registered four-wheeler being recklessly and illegally driven on Morjim beach stretch and getting stuck in sand surfaced on social media recently.

The Tourism Department in its letter stated that the act is in violation of the order — driving of unauthorised vehicles on beaches of Goa – thereby violating the directions of the order and has committed an offense under Section 188 of IPC.

The Pernem Police Station Police Inspector said that he is not in receipt of the request of the Tourism Department yet.

This is one of the several incidents of unauthorised driving of vehicles that have happened in the past, due to which the Tourism Department had promulgated an order making the unauthorised driving on beach a punishable offence.
