MORJIM: The problem of encroachments at Morjim beach continues unabated, even as traders prepare to conclude this year’s tourism season. Private restaurant and shack owners have erected beach beds close to the shoreline at Vithaldas Vaddo, inconveniencing visitors.
On May 29, a group of youths from Varcha-vada questioned a hotel worker about the placement of beach beds close to the shoreline, to which he arrogantly responded that he had made deals with ‘everyone’ and was ‘untouchable’. “Even at the beginning of the tourism season, many businessmen encroached upon the beach. When the locals raise concerns, they respond with arrogance,” said Nikita Morajkar, a local youth. The Department of Tourism had taken action against the encroachments, but surprisingly, the beds were returned to the hotel owners the same night.
