CALANGUTE: In a horrific incident, a simple dispute over the cost of tender coconut water resulted into an assault at Parra, Bardez. A tourist from Rajasthan who questioned the proprietor of a roadside juice centre over the steep price of Rs 80 per tender coconut was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod by, the proprietor.
The verbal exchange between the tourist, identified as Meena, and vendor Gorakhnath Gad quickly took a violent turn, resulting in the tourist getting assaulted by Gad. Meena sustained minor injuries from the alleged assault. He was rushed to the district hospital for treatment and discharged after treatment.
The Mapusa police swiftly and apprehended Gorakhnath Gad. The accused was arrested under Sections 504 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and later released on bail. Investigations are being carried out by Head Constable Mahesh Shetgaonkar, under the supervision of PI Shitakant Nayak, under overall supervision of DySP Jivba Dalvi.
