MAPUSA: It’s literally a tragi-comedy. After a brutal knife attack on an Anjuna tourist was watered down by the police not initially registering an attempt to murder, the PI Prashal Desai who has been protected, “cannot say” if the decision was taken with his direction.
At the same time he agrees that all such decisions are taken by discussing with the highest officer in the police station, who is Desai himself.
Before registering any case and sections are applied against the accused person/s, the case is always discussed with the police inspector in charge.
O Heraldo later contacted DySP Jivba Dalvi, who shockingly denied receiving the official suspension order of the PSI in the assault case.
Meanwhile, the Anjuna Police have arrested four accused in the assault case, while the police are on the lookout for another accused Salim, a resident of Mapusa, who is absconding.
PI Desai informed that during the interrogation, Royston Dias (Roshan), one of the accused and former staff of the resort said that he had returned to the hotel to get his mobile phone charger and was waiting outside the gate for his colleague, who was supposed to get the charger. However, when one of the tourists started shooting a video of them (Royston and his friend), a quarrel erupted, which led to the brutal assault.
When asked about the presence and use of weapons by one of them, the accused said that he carries a weapon for personal safety. Being a taxi driver and sometimes when guests misbehave under the influence of alcohol, he uses it for safety purposes.
