Tourist guide requests govt to keep touts at bay

PANJIM: Manuel Vaz, a tourist guide from Mandur has written to the government objecting to touts being employed by reputed travel agencies in the State and demanded that strict action be taken against them.

In a letter to Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Mandur has said reputed travel agencies are employing touts for guided tours in the State.

“It is also observed when the cruise liners dock at the Mormugao Port, touts are hired by the travel agencies. Due to the employment of touts, the genuine licenced guides are not getting business. Also, the guides are known as mini ambassadors of the State who are responsible for giving proper information about Goa and Goans. These touts give wrong information to the tourists thereby spoiling the name of Goa at the national and international level. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the Tourism Department to keep a check on touts,” he has said.

Vaz has also demanded that Tourism Department should ensure that only the guides who have been issued licences be allowed entry at the Mormugao Port Cruise terminal.
